Heavyweights Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder will fight for the third time in Las Vegas on Saturday, in one of the most anticipated fights of 2021.
Fury will defend his WBC title against the American, whom he stopped in the seventh round in their first fight 20 months ago.
It was Wilder’s first loss in a professional career of 44 fights, and it prompted him to accuse Fury of cheating.
“Deep down in his core, he knows he’s lost before and will lose again,” Fury added.
“After this fight, he’ll go back to the fast food joint where he used to work earlier in his career.” For him, it’s the end of the road.
“You’re in denial, and you’re about to be thrown out. Do yourself a favor and retire – your legacy is shattered, you’ve made all the excuses, and you’ve been obliterated. No one believes you, and everyone laughs at you. You’re a frail individual.”
The two previously fought in a contentious draw in December 2018, although Fury was rewarded for bringing the fight to his opponent the last time out.
Wilder later blamed his ring walk costume for depleting his stamina, but he also claimed Fury’s gloves had been tampered with.
Since then, the 35-year-old has parted ways with coach Mark Breland, who gave up on Fury, and replaced him with former heavyweight opponent Malik Scott.
“What was the purpose of altering everything and doing all this extra effort if I only won because I cheated?” I wonder. In a tense last press conference, Fury remarked.
“I don’t mind since it’s clearly coming from a sick individual.” He blamed me for everything, including his team, trainer, suit, injuries, the Nevada State Athletic Commission, and the referee.
“It might have been plausible if he had come up with just one of these reasons, but not 50. He may believe anything he wants; what it tells me is that he’s a weak individual who I’ll knock out on Saturday night.”
Why has it taken so long?
Following the coronavirus epidemic, Fury was scheduled to fight Anthony Joshua in an all-British undisputed bout in the summer, but Joshua has since lost his titles to Oleksandr Usyk.
But Wilder’s camp went to court to get a rematch clause, and an arbitrator ruled that Fury had to fight the Alabaman again.
The trilogy fight was subsequently postponed in July when Fury caught coronavirus, meaning the two will finally meet on Saturday, one year, seven months, and 18 days after they last fought.
“I don’t normally act cocky, but I think Deontay will knock him out this time,” Wilder’s manager Shelly Finkel said on the 5 Live Boxing show.
“There will be no rematch; everything is up for discussion. I don’t believe Fury will want to fight Deontay again after the fight, but who knows if he wants and we can’t get Joshua or Usyk because they are fighting each other. But I have a feeling we won’t see one other again.”
Former champions, who are they rooting for?
Steve Egan, Tyson Fury’s initial coach, recounts his first encounter with the fighter when he was 14 years old.
Lennox Lewis, the former undisputed heavyweight champion, thinks Fury is the superior boxer and believes he will win if the fight goes the distance, but if it comes down to a knockout, he will choose Wilder.
“I think Tyson Fury has a lot more tools and weapons in his inventory,” he said in an interview with Sport.
“I believe Deontay would have a wonderful time in there if he went back and learned a few more techniques he can utilize. So it’s going to be a terrific battle all around.”
Meanwhile, Frank Bruno, the 1995 WBC heavyweight champion, is confidence in his fellow Briton’s ability to win.
“I don’t believe Tyson will just defeat him again; he’s a lot better fighter than Wilder, and he’ll teach him,” Bruno said.
“Fury will be almost five stone heavier than Wilder, which will make a huge difference if he fights intelligently and wears him down.
“However, you must be cautious of Wilder’s windmill punch.” He just has a huge punch and not much more, but you have to give him a chance.
“As long as Tyson Fury stays away from this man, who is a very dangerous hard puncher… don’t become foolish.” This man has just one quality: power.
“Tyson, I believe, has everything under control. I really hope so. Tyson Fury, I believe, will knock him out.”
Will Wilder’s alterations be fruitful?
Tyson Fury has never seen Deontay Wilder like this, according to his trainer Scott.
Wilder has brought in new trainer Scott, whom he claims he “loves profoundly” and who he calls a “family team,” but who he beat in a first-round knockout in 2014.
“I’m a boxing student, and Deontay dominated the division with one weapon, but often two or three,” Scott said.
“I’ve seen him spar for ten years, fighting people from various walks of life and seeing him be innovative, but when he gets in the ring, he just uses one or two tools.”
“He was happy to take people out with one weapon, so I went into his toolbox and made sure we drilled it again and over.”
“I’m not having him perform choreographed pad work or duck down to the ground – he’s up against a big man.” I don’t want my boxer to catch blows; instead, I want him to slide and parry them.
“He’s more energetic and open-minded, and this is the greatest Deontay Wilder anybody has ever seen.”

What about AJ vs. Fury?
Joshua, a two-time world heavyweight champion, claimed he wasn’t “very concerned” about who won this fight, although he picked Wilder to win by knockout. British fans, on the other hand, have been waiting for him to fight Fury.
Joshua’s defeat to Usyk complicates things even more, since the victor on Saturday is sure to want to face Usyk to unify the title.
Fury’s aim, according to Lewis, is to “become the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world.” Lewis, who held all of the heavyweight belts at the turn of the century, thinks Fury’s goal is to “become the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world.”
“I think he’ll opt for Usyk,” he predicted. “The Joshua fight will always be there, but Usyk is there, and getting all the titles is the ultimate objective right now.”
“Joshua is in the top five or six, so he can go up against any of them.”
“However, since the fight was never held while they were champions, I believe that fans are still interested in seeing that battle and seeing who would win.”
